Previous Events held in Oakville:
Earth Hour was celebrated among at least half of all residents in Oakville. There was an 11% electricity savings across the grid because of this family activity. What began in Sydney, Australia is now a worldwide movement.
The annual Waterfront Festival returned June 26-28, 2009. The festival drew over 100,000 people and was held at Coronation Park (1426 Lakeshore Road West - East of Third Line). The festival featured concerts, craft show, theme park, dog show, health and wellness villiage and a children's villiage.
Happy Victoria Day! The community enjoyed many privately initiated fireworks displays. Some blocks actually got together for a "block party" with fireworks out of the wheelbarrel and sparklers for all of the kids.
Happy Mother's Day
Mother's Day is a day for each family to honor their mother. Popular gifts include personal gifts, a night out to dinner, spa gifts, flowers, pampering gifts, even jewelry such as mother's rings and greeting cards. Happy Earth Day
Even Barack Obama was in Iowa celebrating Earth Day previously. Schools in our community were all celebrating as well. Even the local Starbucks was doling out free coffee if you brought a travel mug.
Reducing our carbon footprint takes center stage. Other buzz includes reducing our "cookprint" as well. (being aware of what and how you cook is also part of the going green equation).
This tire swing awaited kids in school as the weather begins to get nicer again in Bronte Creek Provincial Park.New incentives and programs such as Earth for Energy are helping us look at alternative energy and cut electricity expenses. Glen Abbey celebrates Earth Day
From schools to local businesses, Earth Day made everyone stop and think for a brief and important period of time. Ontario is already the second most environmentally conscious province after British Columbia and Canada ranks very high on ecological concern and cooperation.
